ACA Results

I recently received official notice from the American Camp Association (ACA) that Camp Chippewa passed with flying colors during our ACA accreditation visit last summer. We are proud to have again earned this distinction by having met or exceeded the rigorous standards laid out by the ACA.

Chippewa Goes Primetime

The holidays found a few of the Chippewa crowd on primetime TV. The Pattons made waves at the Packers game with their cheeseheads while an anonymous alumnus donned his Royal Stewart tam for a Christmas Day Lakers basketball game. Both were caught on national television.

A New Year Has Arrived...

"It's New Year's Day and thoughts turn to my son's upcoming and long anticipated adventure to Hudson Bay. The winter winds are swirling outside when all of a sudden a very large section of our backyard fence begins to collapse. I call in the "troops" and within 10 minutes my son has tied a most secure set of sailing knots (learned at Chippewa) to brace the fence until we can replace the rotten posts. Once again Camp Chippewa has proven its worth.One never knows!"

Holiday Shopping Guide - Lower Camp

We're back with more ideas for the holidays. This time, it's down to Lower Camp we go. Many of these campers are in their first or second summer at Chippewa, so here are some fun things to get ready for summer 2012!

Nite Ize Bug Light - Not a whole lot to say here, except that this is a fun little light to have hanging around your area in the cabin. Since we don't have bugs in our cabins, this seems like a reasonable replacement. About $13 for cool factor.

Why Not Games - Knots aren't just for sailors or fishermen, they're for aspiring canoe trippers as well. This is a great kit to get a head start on knots. Great illustrated cards to help keep everyone busy for a while as they hone their skills. Just $5!

Plastic Fencing Training Set - Hey campers, you can thank me later for this! Yes, I may be the fencing master at camp and yes, I may be sympathetic to all things fencing, but these are pretty slick. What swashbuckling camper wouldn't want this! While it is very cool looking, it is also very practical if you have an aspiring fencer. In reading the reviews, you will see that this set helps develop proper skills in the sport of fencing, unlike a random nerf set of foam swords! I'm a fan. And if you are real enthusiastic, opt for the wireless scoring option that will make it even cooler and more accurate for true fencers. Mask and foil set (two color choices) starts at $68 and is on sale!

While putting together this years photo album I happened across some photos that did not make into smugmug. Needless to say I added them immediately. I also couldn't help but notice just how many great photos we have from 2011! It was a special summer and we have a lot of pictures that capture that fact beautifully. If you haven't seen them yet you need to go check them out.

I will be finished with the 2011 photo album in a few days and will post a link both here and on our Facebook page that will you allow you to view it or get yourself one. It sure has been fun reliving last summer.

Holiday Shopping Guide - Upper Camp

Let's move right up the line to Upper Camp. These guys will be spending less and less time in camp as their trips get longer in Canada. So, I'll again be focusing on what the guys might like if they're on Canadians.

Cabela's Digital Fish Scale - I like this small scale. There are some giants lurking in the depths of the Canadian lakes and rivers and if you want proper bragging rights, then this little gadget should do the trick. Nice price at just $13.

GoPro HD Hero2 - I can almost hear the phone ringing after I post this suggestion. By far the most expensive item I have ever recommended and no doubt I may be pandering a bit to the campers on this one. But the reality is that this is an awesome video camera that has a million uses in and out of camp, especially for the active ones in the family. There were two of these cameras in camp during 2011 and the videos were great. We have some wonderful footage of shooting rapids and portaging that could only be captured with a device like this. And yes, a camper brought one of them to camp. It's lightweight and easy to operate. Though ti costs more than most things I'd recommend, it's less than other great video cameras, so it makes the final cut. This one is listed at $299, but shop around for the best price.

Fred Senior Cardboard Moosehead - Hanging above the door of Knutson Hall is a moose rack brought back to camp in the 1970s from the Bloodvein River. The name of that moose rack is the tam-a-rack. As you know, tams are a big deal at Chippewa. They are earned only on Canadian trips and it is with great pride that, upon entering Knutson Hall, a Chippewa camper or counselor reaches up and hangs his tam on the moose rack. The tam-a-rack is reserved only for tams. I realize that some moms may not want a dead carcass on their walls at home, so this is a great substitute. Grab the cardboard moose rack, hang it on the wall and each tam can hang happily in his room. It's about $50 and they get to put it together!

Holiday Shopping Guide - Middle Camp

Ah, Middle Camp! Seemingly always in the middle of the heap when it comes to lining up for camp store (e.g. "Lower Camp, you're first and head right up the line" or "Let's start with Upper Camp and come down"). Well, let's break the routine and begin this year's shopping guide with the guys from Chalet.

Last year's guide had some great ideas for this age group, especially since they are really beginning to build their skills in so many activities. I thought we could take a slightly different tack with this year's ideas. So, for all of you Mom's and Dad's, here it goes, Chippewa's guide to what dudes want for the holidays:

"Don't Die Out There" Playing Cards - As campers enter Middle Camp, their canoe trips get longer and generally they spend more time out of camp at Hook Island or on the Apostle Sail Trip. A favorite past time is playing cards in your tent in the evening, so why not add a little survival silliness to the whole thing. Very fun!

JOBY GorillaTorch Switchback Lamp - I like JOBY products, like the Gorillapod that I recommended last year. This is a slick light set that is a combination lamp and head light. Great in camp and on the trail since it packs small. I have the WestMarine listing for about $39, but it's also on Amazon for all of you Prime-timers out there.

Portable Ping Pong Set - As any Chippewa camper knows, we play table tennis, not ping pong, at Chippewa. With that said, I can't imagine why this isn't the greatest thing ever. Ever hear the words "I'm bored!" Not an issue with this set...instant ping pong, er table tennis, anytime, anywhere. Not as high quality as the Chippewa tables, but not bad in a pinch. (It's worth adding that I've assumed that your nice china or Waterford crystal is well stashed and has been for many years.)

If you've been on the Apostle Island Sail trip, you know one of camp's best kept secrets. Yes, the Canadians are exceptional trips, but every once and while, a diversion might be good. In this case, it's aboard a 30 foot sloop or 40 foot cat.

Now, Yahoo Travel has posted one of the secrets. It's one of their top 10 "secret" islands to explore.

A Thanksgiving Recipe

I'm going to assume everyone has the turkey and stuffing handled. However, if you're looking for an outstanding "comfort food" kind of dessert, check out the Apple Crisp from Mary and Ada's Cookbook (and yes we have a few remaining copies if you'd like to buy one. Just email me!)

Apple Crisp
12 apples sliced and placed in 12"x14" pan
Sprinkle apples with 3/4 cup of sugar

Crumbs to put on top of apples
2 cups flour
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup melted margarine or butter
1 tsp cinnamon

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until done.

Chippewa Wanderings

It struck me on the flight back from NYC how remarkable it is that the Chippewa family, begun more than 76 years ago with just five boys from Tulsa, now represents countless US cities and more than 15 countries. Certainly it hit me like a brick wall when I landed in Beijing earlier this month (thanks to Calvin W. and his family!) that the world is truly shrinking. Just this week, I mailed three brochure to St. Petersburg, Russia. Our one camper from Moscow a few years ago may have been just a hint of what's to come.

For three decades now, Mexican families have been trekking north to Chippewa. JP visited Mexico City not too many years ago. Now, even the small island state of Martinique is home to a Chippewa camper. Simply Amazing! Most remarkable is how relevant the Chippewa experience is across cultures. Bring boys to Cass Lake, remove technology and immerse them in an adventurous and rewarding wilderness experience, and what remains are boys who grow together.

To of our many international campers, staff and alumni, thanks for making the journey and for widening the reach of our unique camping philosophy. In honor, I attach a photo from 1981 of Ricky G., our first Mexican camper with his very first fish caught in Lake Windigo. (Turns out, his first summer was my first summer. And yes, we were cabinmates in Bunkhouse Cabin. Howdy Ricky!)

The Chippewa Train arrives in London - briefly.

Last month a brief, but fun, unofficial Chippewa rendezvous hit the shores of our Island Nation.

Long-time Chippewa Alum, Charles B (1990's) stopped off on his way from doing business somewhere in Europe for a couple of nights of fun in London - meeting up with Roger C (1990's), Jim F (2000's) and me (2000's).

As with all good Chippewans, the theme of the weekend had to be sport and competition - Friday night saw us in Central London for a spot of cricket - always a fun sight to see England winning, even more fun when trying to explain the rules of cricket to a foreign guest - apparently several 'ground rule doubles' were scored? We even managed an appearance on live TV.

Saturday brought more sports - following a morning of rugby (another England win), we headed to north London for a football match (ok, ok, soccer match) courtesy of Roger C.

So wherever you are in the world, have a look, you might find a Chippewa Alum or two

An interesting post on USA Today over the summer argues that working at camp is more valuable than becoming an intern, especially if you are looking for professional skills. I have to say that many of his points are right on the money, in particular his summary :

"Working at {camp} has taught me perhaps the most important skill for any job: grit."

Research and the NFL

A couple of years ago, I wrote a short reaction to NFL Play 60 campaign. Now, some researchers are actually studying the impact camps can have on a sedentary lifestyle for children. A summary of the research paper suggests that camp is (as we already know intuitively as camp families) 'an antidote to the summer sedentary behaviors of young people'.

Now that my Detroit Lions may actually have a team, I see more and more of the Play 60 campaign ads. Now get out there and play....then come to camp for some 24/7 sloth-busting!

Chippewa Hits the Road

Dates for our 2011-2012 Rendezvous events are already being set, including surfing in Los Angeles next weekend. Sam and I are excited to see as many camper families as we can, so if you'd like to host a fun event in your town, let us know! We'll bring along one or two of your favorite counselors to join the fun as well!

"The Meaning of Summer Camp"

Just in case you missed this Time magazine article a while back, I thought I would post it for you. It provides a wonderful perspective for parents who are considering sending their son (or daughter) to camp. A few excerpts to tempt you:

"So I wasn't looking for some fancy culinary camp or robotics camp or whatever is fashionable now, just for someplace that teaches the appropriate interactions of sticks, weenies and flame."

"This defies what I suspect is now the whole point of sleepaway camp: if 19th century campers were meant to retrieve lost survival skills--trapping, fishing, gunnery--21st century campers need to work on their social skills......For kids who are allowed to text during dinner, who have their parents on speed dial for whenever they get in trouble or need a ride, who communicate using more acronyms than a four-star general, a little autonomy is probably long overdue"

And maybe my favorite:

"Maybe it wouldn't be bad to practice distance, not just physical but psychological; let our kids take a walk alone in the woods, maybe do the same ourselves, and relish the fresh conversations we'll get to have when we are together again come summer's end."

Camp Chippewa Is The Place To Be

This is camper Tommy R. writing from the camp office. This year at Camp Chippewa has been great. I haven't done every activity here at camp but I really look forward to them. My favorite activity here at camp has got to be sailing. The sailing instructors are really nice and they're really experienced and its so fun learning about parts of the boat and knots and learning how to sail the boat. A close second would have to be Riflery. Learning how to shoot the rifle, hold it, and safely operate it. For those who not know the cook, Mary, sorry Moms but you have to move out of the way. Mary mastered the culinary arts just as Cap Endres mastered the perfect camp. There's the best cookies in the world made here and best food. And to the kids that are coming you're gonna love this place. I was a bit touchy about coming here for four weeks for my second year but I am glad I did. Last year I stayed for two weeks and trust me, I made a bad decision for not staying here two more. There's all sorts of activities to do from fencing to water skiing, from riflery to archery and way more. And you're gonna love the staff, Mike Thompson, the Director of camp, is awesome. Anyways, I'm already excited for next year. Don't choose language camp, or archery camp, or anything else because Camp Chippewa is the place to be.

Come Sail Away

Another Session Update...

The weather is fine, and the wind is blowing. Yet another perfect day on the shores of Cass Lake. Over the last few days we couldn't have asked for better camp weather. The sailors were happy with their breeze, the canoeists were delighted with a few waves to negotiate, and the swimmers were glad of a slightly warmer Buck Lake.

The last few days have seen the departure of several trips to destinations throughout the North Woods - just this morning we waved off Olson Cabin who were heading to the Crow Wing River, and Eagle's Nest - destination Canada and the Quetico.

With all these trips heading out, camp is much smaller (but not necessarily quieter), though a smaller camp is an opportunity not to be missed. A bright, warm Super Sunday was the perfect excuse for the whole camp to relocate to Cedar Island for the afternoon, spending several hours swimming on the sandbar and exploring the dropoff.

Today there is a new challenge ahead. The boys will be competing in Camp Chippewa's own version of the 'Amazing Race', and I am sure there will be some intense competition to be the first team to solve the puzzles and unlock the prize.

ACA Visitation

Earlier this week, we welcomed two visitors from the American Camp Association for our standards accreditation review. Every three years, the ACA visits member camps to assess program quality, health and safety and site facilities. Camps must meet the minimum standards to maintain their accreditation.

I am proud to announce that Camp Chippewa has again renewed its accreditation by passing with flying colors. I was delighted by the response by the two visitors who enjoyed their visit to Chippewa. Congratulations campers and staff!

Stellar Start to Second

With the two-weekers preparing for their final full day at camp tomorrow, I thought an update on all things Chippewa was in order. By now, hot dog letters should have arrived home, as well as the staff notes from our counselors, sharing news of Capture the Flag, archery ranks passed, a camper-counselor doubles tennis tournament and canoe trips down the Mississippi or the Crow Wing.

The first few days were hot ones and most of us bid a hasty retreat to Cass or Buck Lake as often as the schedule allowed. In fact, this first morning of camp found what must have been a near record number of dippers. Before too long, however, the heat headed East and we were left with clear blue skies, cool evenings and warm days. Perfect camp weather.

Early in the season, Bearpaw tennis courts welcomed the girls from nearby Camp Birchwood for an afternoon of tennis. All ages and tennis skill levels had a chance to hit the ball and we had a blast. The Chippewa tam included Ben C., Tommy K., Hunter H., Jake E., Steven L., Robert T., Grant A. and Miles A.

The trip house swung into action by the end of the first week. By the end of the session, four Hook Island fish trips, three Crow Wing river trips, three Star Island explorations, Kopka River and Quetico Canadian canoe trips and several other day and overnight paddling trips will pack out and return to camp. As I type, the guys from Manitou are preparing to leave for a six-day Canadian prep trip to Voyageurs National Park. Even with all of the activities in camp, much of the adventure for our campers can still be found on the trail. Case and point was Cody O.'s 32" northern pike caught at Hook Island, as well as Mick M.'s monster from the deep...the one that got away. I'm excited to hear more stories as the trips return.

Today's activity updates after dinner reported ranks passed and progress in everything from fencing to trap shooting. Some examples? Ben M. got up on skis for the first time, while Stephen S. was cutting rooster tails in slalom. Down at the Potato Patch, Sam Ch. and Charlie M. took a few shots at the clay pigeons, while Robert H. passed his ProMarksman on the riflery range and Phillip P. earned his Able Seaman in sailing. It was indeed a busy day around camp.

Yes, it's been a wonderful couple of weeks at camp. And yes, many of our time-honored traditions will be replayed in the final two weeks of summer 76. Whether it be the Counselor Hunt or a secret tam ceremony somewhere in the remote wilderness of Canada, something exciting is just around the corner. It will be fun to watch the adventure unfold.

The Musical Men of Muir Triumphantly Return!

Adventure, tradition, character. All three in abundance on the Gammon River. Our trip was an epic odyssey from Red Lake to Lake Winnipeg, with more rapids, portages, and high adventure than you can shake a stick at. Upon our arrival back to camp we exited the van sporting our beautiful new Lindsay Tams, to be greeted with handshakes from old friends and counselors, and the wide eyed wonder of the young campers as they heard the tales of our adventures on the trail. After that, we headed down to Knutson Hall, to engorge ourselves on a spectacular Sunday lunch of pork, mashed potatoes, fried zucchini, and to top it off, we all ate ice cream sundaes of biblical proportions. We had an unbelievable trip and were welcomed back with open arms.

Our friends from Camp Kamaji are joining us today for a friendly regatta. Sailing, archery and tennis are on the schedule. It's a beautiful day for some friendly competition! (The Chippewa teams are listed below the photos.)

What a fantastic week we've had! While camp has shrunk with so many canoe trips, fish trips and sail trips scattered through the northwoods, many are now beginning to return with wonderful highlights. Among them, the Apostle Island sail trip shared stories of adventure aboard the 38-foot Dragonfly on Lake Superior. The crew had excellent sailing winds, explored the caves and tunnels of Devil's Island and watched the fireworks of the 4th of July from the deck of their vessel. James W., Augie A., Magnus F., Spencer O., and Jordan L. made this their first voyage under sail with Chippewa.

As I type this note, the shots from our new trap shooting program can be heard echoing through the forest. It's exciting to bring in new activities that reinforce the camping philosophy and program and provide unique opportunities for the boys. I'm excited to hear the full report from the "potato patch" after lunch!

It looks like our weather has finally broken. The last several days have provided shining blue and cloudless skies. As we sneak up to the final week of camp, we'll welcome home Muir, Marshall and Manitou cabins from their Canadian canoe trips down the Gammon, Sanford and Eagle Rock respectively. We will also be looking for the Athabascans to return from their trip to Hudson Bay, navigating the North Knife River for 19 days in remote northern Manitoba. This is true adventure and this is truly camping!

Hi! I am Andrew B. I am a camper at Camp Chippewa. I am very sad to leave camp today. Next year I will be a four-weeker! We did archery, riflery, swam and also, if you are a two-weeker, you get to camp on Star Island, play tennis and table tennis. You will always have a great counselor. You get to have lots of fun with Skit Night, have grilled cheese and you get to make a lot of friends too.

A Logger's Tale

The hushed-quiet of a traditional silent breakfast with Paul Bunyan-sized pancakes was broken by the sound of two chainsaws this morning as we prepare for Paul Bunyan Day. It is truly the year of the lumberjack at Chippewa. It should be an exciting afternoon of log tosses, match splitting and a few other surprises.

The time is flying at camp! Our two-week campers head home on Saturday, but not before the annual Black Tie Dinner and a shadow puppet play on Friday evening. The week has been a busy one for all of the campers as the Trip House was buzzing. Sooner cabin returned from a 3 day trip down the Crow Wing, Demonia cabin is fishing at Hook Island in Canada and Muir and Marshall are exploring the canoe trails of Ontario. Later this week, our sailors head to the Apostle Islands and more local trips will come and go down the Mississippi or across Cass Lake to Star Island. Undoubtedly, those evenings around the campfire will provide some of the most exciting memories of camp.

It looks like the rain has finally given way to a few days of sunshine, so everyone is thrilled about the blue skies. Despite the rain, the activities have been running on all cylinders. Just a little bit of random news of interest around camp which demonstrates the point : Henry M. shot a perfect 50 on the rifle range. Wow! Chippong has grabbed the imagination of the table tennis enthusiasts (details best left for an evening at home), Olson cabin garnered Honor Cabin for the first week with the coveted green paddle now hanging in the window, Badger and Bunkhouse cabin had their first spin tubing behind the Beluga last night with Jake S. a highlight with airborne antics and Christian M. and Nicolas M. were top fisherman with Sam during quick fish trip to Moose Lake yesterday.

More adventure means more news ahead.....

I Can See Clearly Now....

The rain is gone and the sun is shining! I just arrived in Cass Lake after missing the first part of camp. It's a bit unusual for me to arrive late, since I've been here for the past 10 years to start the summer. So, I didn't really know what to expect, but I should have. Everything was how it has always been. Rounds being fired, arrows hitting the gold, and JP could be heard on the tennis court from the Ivy Bowl down to Buck Lake.

Upon arrival, the rain that had been present for the past three days stopped! In spite of the rain, activity orientation carried on and the counselors have the guys off to a fantastic start. All of the campers have taken the swim test, and some have even passed their water ski test! Ranks are starting to be passed down on the Rifle and Archery ranges and the report from the Sail Shanty is that camp may have some new First Mates to take the helm of the Chippewa fleet. The men of the Athabasca are on their way down the North Knife to the Bay with the hopes of paddling with Beluga whales. Camp is buzzing and moving full speed ahead!

Last night, the stage became The House of Rock! The Airband competition was a crowd favorite and hilarious! The boys from Kamaji cabin were crowned champions with their rendition of Queen. Nice work Jack, Ian, Max, Josh, Andrew, and Philip!

And he may be headed your way. A Minnesota man is paddling the Mississippi River from Lake Itasca to Minneapolis....standing up on a paddle board. The local newspaper had an article last week and he came through Cass Lake shortly after the report. I get tired just looking at him, but what a great adventure. To date, I now count a paddleboarder, canoeists, kayakers (including some of our counselors), a swimmer and even a man on an inflatable tube descending the Mississippi from the headwaters to Minneapolis or beyond. I wonder what's next.

New Activity for 2011

The rumors are true! I would like to officially announce that Trap Shooting will become regular activity at camp this summer. Awesome!

The program will be headquartered at a rarely used site in camp near the old clay pit and will be open to all campers who have earned at least their Sharpshooter in riflery and are at least 12 years old. You can expect 20 and 12 gauge shotguns and ranks that are similar to riflery. It's gonna be great!

So get excited! It isn't too often that we add a new activity to camp, but we think that trap is an exciting addition and is consistent with Chippewa philosophy. Watch for more details in the new couple of weeks before camp starts. It's another reason to join the summer 76....I wonder who will earn the first ever rank?

The Tulsa office and Chippewa HQ is packed and ready for departure. Moby and I will be heading out tomorrow, arriving camp on Thursday. Natalie and Logan will join the fray for the month of July!

Camping Loses An Advocate

Once again I share sad news from the camping industry. Brad Schwartz, Director of Banner Day Camp, passed away on Saturday morning. Brad was a second generation camp director and I am proud to say that he was a friend and a fond supporter of Camp Chippewa.

Brad was passionate about providing summer camp opportunities for all kids, regardless of their socio-economic background. In an effort to provide this to underserved and deserving children, he co-founded SCOPE Midwest (Summer Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge). SCOPE is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need by funding not-for-profit resident camps with “camperships” that offer the benefits of a safe, well-supervised and enriching summer camp experience. A few weeks ago, SCOPE honored Brad with the Lifetime Achievement in Camping Award for his years of dedication and commitment to the camping industry.

On behalf of the Camp Chippewa family, we send our condolences to the Schwartz family and the entire Banner Day Camp extended family.

Chippewa Partners to Combat Child Abuse

I am pleased to announce that Camp Chippewa recently sponsored on-air public service announcements to help shine a light on the problem of child abuse. The PSA's were broadcast on KKWB radio, 102.5 FM "the Coyote" in Bemidji, Minnesota.

A Fond Farewell to Sunny Moore

It is sad to report that Sunny Moore, longtime director at Clearwater Camp for Girls, passed away quietly last night. Sunny was a dedicated camping advocate and a source of wisdom and energy for camping professionals. She was also a firm supporter of Camp Chippewa, for which we will always be thankful.

We'll miss Sunny's enthusiasm and friendship and pass along our sympathies to the Clearwater family. You can read more about Sunny on Clearwater's website.

Reflections from the Arctic

In the last issue of our CHIPS newsletter, I published an excerpt from the journal kept by the crew on last summer's Arctic canoe exploratory, the Coppermine. The excerpt was written by one our the campers, Wil Gehl, who shared some wonderful thoughts, not only on the journey to the Arctic Ocean, but on his journey as a camper during his many years as a camper.

Not exactly, but he may be taking his first step. John Olson, longtime (and current) Chippewa counselor, was recently selected as one of 38 teachers nationwide to be chosen for the prestigious Space Foundation Teacher Liaison program. John is a teacher in Evergreen, Colorado and Chippewa's archery guru among other talents.

A big time congrats to Jolson! For a man who loves moon rocks, Marvel comics, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, it's hard to imagine a more fitting honor! Seriously, John, great job!

Ski Rendezvous in Breckenridge

It was a Chippewa first: a ski Rendezvous in Breckenridge. The guys had a great time skiing on Sunday over Presidents' Day weekend. A pizza party followed at the Milligan condo. Among the notables in attendance were Zach S., Joe M., Ben N and Will N., along with several counselors like Huggins, Jerry Malloy, Sam Noel, Luce, Jolson, Teddy, Simon Taylor and a few more. Ken and Marshall H. were also lingering about, as was Bo and John Norris. Natalie and I had a blast with everyone and plans are already underway for another ski rendezvous during Presidents' Day 2012. Thanks to everyone who turned up and look forward to a repeat next year.

How To Make a Bed...

...or more specifically, "how to make a stylish bed." Of course, any Chippewa alum, camper or counselor knows this intuitively.

A longtime Chippewa alum from Houston recently spotted this article in Wall Street Journal, about, of all things, making a stylish bed. I'm not sure that the Chippewa crowd has ever been accused of being the most stylish crowd, but it certainly shows that we are a timeless bunch.
